KISORO- A senior four student of St Peters Vocational secondary school in Kisoro Municipality, identified as Barinda Kevin aged 17, has died in post Primary secondary school football competitions after sustaining a head injury during a football match.
The deceased is a resident of Businga village, Chihe parish in Nyakinama Sub County.
The injury incident happened during an interschool football tournament in a game between St. Peters Vocational secondary school and Muhabura shine secondary school at Seseme on Friday.
According to the school head teacher, George Zihuramye, the deceased collided with a fellow player but he continued to play until he felt an acute headache in the next match.
Zihuramye says that the boy informed his supervisors who immediately gave him first aid. He was later taken to a nearby clinic for further management before being referred to St. Francis hospital Mutorele where he died today morning.
Zihuramye told our reporter that the post-mortem report indicates that the boy died due to internal bleeding in the head.
The Kisoro district secondary school’s sports coordinator, Murangira Nickson confirmed the incident saying that it is very unfortunate and bad news to the entire district sports fraternity.
He added that the deceased could have at first taken the injury as minor.
The tournament continued today with round of 16 and quarterfinal matches at Gisorora, Nyakabande technical, Seseme and Saza playgrounds. Post primaries are organised annually by the Uganda secondary school’s sports association (USSA)
