KABALE: The Kabale District COVID-19 taskforce has mandated the wearing of face masks at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and Kabale District headquarters as part of their strategy to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Godfrey Nyakahuma, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner and Chairperson of the District COVID-19 taskforce, announced on Wednesday that this decision comes in the wake of two recent deaths due to COVID-19 in the area.
Nyakahuma disclosed that last month, Kabale Regional Referral Hospital admitted 16 COVID-19 patients, emphasizing the importance of vaccination, as vaccines are readily available at various health facilities within the district.

In May 2023, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), declared the end of the global health emergency for COVID-19.
However, he cautioned that the virus still posed a significant global health threat, urging countries to shift from emergency response to integrated management alongside other infectious diseases.
