KAMPALA: The Uganda Peoples Defense Force (UPDF) is currently investigating a tragic incident that occurred in Lusaka Zone, Makindye 1, Makindye Division in Kampala, where one of its officers shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.
According to Col Deo Akiiki, Deputy Defence Spokesperson, the incident occurred this morning at approximately 7:20 AM. The suspect, Corporal Andebo Collins, a UPDF soldier attached to the Military Police, fatally injured his wife, Aturinda Pellone.
Col Akiiki revealed that Cpl Andebo had been deployed to guard Honorable Kibule’s residence but abandoned his post to commit the heinous act.
“After shooting his wife in both arms, Cpl Andebo then turned the weapon on himself, resulting in his immediate death,” stated Col Akiiki.
Tragically, despite medical attention, Pellone later succumbed to her wounds. Col Akiiki emphasized that both the UPDF and the Police are diligently investigating the matter to ascertain the underlying causes of this distressing incident.
“However,” he added, “preliminary information suggests that the couple had long-standing marital issues, despite efforts by leaders to mediate and foster harmony.”
