KABALE: Kabale High Court Judge, Justice Emokor Samuel, has emphasized the need for law institutions to train lawyers in judgment and submission writing.
He made this statement on Wednesday evening while officiating as the chief guest at the launch of the Faculty of Law at Kabale University in Kabale District. Justice Emokor noted that many lawyers only begin practicing judgment writing after finishing the Law Development Centre (LDC) and becoming Grade One Magistrates, which jeopardizes the profession as they often make numerous mistakes in case handling.
He also pointed out that most institutions fail to teach the necessary components of effective submissions, which has caused difficulties for many lawyers. Justice Emokor urged Kabale University School of Law to go beyond the standard curriculum offered at other institutions and equip its students with skills in submission and judgment writing, thereby enhancing the students’ and the university’s marketability.

Justice Emokor also called on Kabale University administrators to provide students with ample opportunities to practice law, enabling them to gain exposure to various aspects of the profession. He stressed the importance of imparting ethical values to students, ensuring they become good ambassadors for the university even after completing their courses.
