RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man identified as Ronald in Nyakagyeme Sub County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 2:30 PM at Kasoroza Cell, Kigaga Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri District.
According to a police statement, at approximately 4:46 PM on Wednesday, the OC Station Nyakagyeme Police, SGT Mabwijano Posiano, received information that Ronald had allegedly attacked his aunt, Mary Bahekire, with whom he had been living in Rwebikona Trading Centre, Kasoroza Cell.
Angry residents pursued Ronald with stones and sticks, beating him. Nyakagyeme police officers attempted to rescue him, but he died before he could be taken to the hospital.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, said that the scene of the crime was examined and documented, relevant statements were recorded from witnesses, and Ronald’s body was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem.
Meanwhile, the victim is currently admitted to Nyakibale Hospital.
