KABALE: The Chairperson of Kabale University Council, Adson Kakuru, has expressed his dismay over President Museveni’s unfulfilled pledge to the University.
According to Kakuru, in November 2016, while speaking as the guest of honor during the installation of Professor Mondo Kagonyera as the first Chancellor of Kabale University, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni promised to give the University 40 billion shillings as startup capital, a promise that has since not been fulfilled.
Kakuru made this revelation on Friday during the 8th Graduation Ceremony of Kabale University, held at the University’s playground in Kikungiri Ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality. A total of 1,387 students graduated in various academic disciplines.

Kakuru highlighted that the University faces significant challenges, including a shortage of land for expansion, limited infrastructure, and insufficient lecture rooms.
He noted that if the President fulfilled his 40 billion shilling pledge, the University could use part of the funds to address these issues.
He also mentioned that most of the University’s students reside in rented rooms far from the campus. The President’s pledge, if fulfilled, would help the University establish a major hostel within its premises, thereby easing learning and lecturing.

Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the State Minister for Primary Education, represented the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, as the chief guest.
In attendance were Ezra Suruma, former senior adviser to the President of Uganda on finance and economic planning; Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Nicholas Thadeus Kamara; Rubanda District LCV Chairperson Stephen Kasyaba and other invited guests.
