RUKUNGIRI: The lay Reader of All Saints Church of Uganda in Rujumbura Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, Rukungiri District, Hannington Tumutegyerize, has challenged Christians not to use the lack of funds for parties as an excuse to delay baptizing their children or having weddings.

Speaking on Monday during a church service held at the home of the late Canon Freddie Beyongera in Kifunjo Cell, Kyatoko Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, Tumutegyerize emphasized that church requirements for baptism and marriage do not include organizing elaborate celebrations. The service was held in memory of Canon Beyongera.

Tumutegyerize noted that many Christians avoid baptizing their children because they believe they cannot afford a party. He clarified that baptizing a child without hosting a celebration costs nothing and urged parents to prioritize the spiritual importance of the sacrament over financial concerns.

He also addressed the misconception that weddings must be accompanied by extravagant receptions, explaining that couples can get married in church and choose to celebrate later when financially prepared.
