Senior economist and city lawyer Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairperson for the Western Region in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Katabaazi made the announcement following the circulation of campaign posters bearing his name on various social media platforms in recent days.
“Guess what we got here? Yes, it’s true @katabaazi25 is standing as the Vice Chairperson Western Region, NRM CEC member,” he posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday.
Katabaazi has called on delegates from the Kigezi sub-region, Ankole, and Toro to support his bid and vote for him in the upcoming party elections.
The seat is currently held by Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Kinkizi East Member of Parliament from Kanungu District and Minister for ICT and National Guidance.
Baryomunsi is serving his first term in the position, having defeated Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza in the 2020 elections.
