The Chairman of the Kabale Municipality Traders’ Association (KMTA), Michael Turyamureba Byamungu Rwastabutare has officially picked up expression of interest forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, marking a significant step in his campaign to become Member of Parliament for Kabale Municipality in the 2026 general elections.
Byamungu says that he has officially joined the race primarily to foster Social-Economic Transformation in Kabale Municipality.
“Today, I have submitted my expression of interest as NRM flag bearer for Member of Parliament, Kabale Municipality. I have joined the race primarily to foster Social-Economic Transformation in Kabale Municipality”. Byamungu stated shortly after picking expression of interest forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala on Tuesday.
He called upon the people of Kabale Municipality to shift from identity-based politics to ideology-driven Leadership in order to realize our major objective of transforming our society.
Byamungu has now joined Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, an Executive Member of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Andrew Aja Baryayanga, and Joseph Mutebile among others who have also picked up expression of interest forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala to compete for the same seat.
Byamungu says that his mission to foster socio-economic transformation in Kabale Municipality is centered on three major objectives that include;
1. Eliminate Politics of Identity:
“We need to shift from identity-based politics to ideology-driven leadership. For 15 years, sectarianism has hindered effective representation. I urge the people of Kabale Municipality to unite against divisive politics and embrace development-oriented leadership”. He said.
2. Align with the Ruling Government:
“Kabale Municipality, a stronghold of NRM, has been poorly represented by opposition leaders who undermine government programs like PDM, Emyooga, and Youth Livelihood Fund. As a result, poverty and unemployment persist. We must elect leaders who align with our party’s vision”. He added.
3. Lobby for Infrastructure Development:
“We’ll advocate for resources to improve roads, power, water, internet, schools, and healthcare. This will attract investors, create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and drive growth”. He said.
