The primaries, however, were not without controversy. Micheal Turyamureeba Byamungu, one of the contestants, raised allegations of voter intimidation and bribery. He indicated that he is consulting his legal team to determine whether to challenge the results.
Speaking to the press shortly after being declared the winner, Baryayanga urged his former rivals and their supporters to join him in the push to reclaim Kabale Municipality from the opposition in the forthcoming elections.
Kabale District NRM Registrar Babra Ainebyoona praised the voter turnout and called for unity among party members as they prepare for the general elections.
Baryayanga previously served as an Independent MP for Kabale Municipality from 2011 to 2021.
His recent return to the NRM was viewed as a strategic political move that could significantly influence the party’s fortunes in the municipality.
