Police in Rubanda District have launched investigations into the death of 65-year-old Zaverio Ruhugye, who is suspected to have been murdered by unknown assailants.
Ruhugye, a resident of Nyakayenje Cell, Kitojo Parish, Bubare Sub-County, was found lifeless along the road leading to his home.
According to police, on Saturday at around 8:00 PM, Ruhugye returned home after grazing his cattle and later visited Hakabungo Trading Centre for leisure. When he failed to return, his wife went to the trading centre around 1:00 AM in search of him but could not find him.
The following morning, at approximately 6:30 AM, one of Ruhugye’s sons, Agaba Urban, who operates a shop at Hakabungo Trading Centre, discovered his father’s body lying near the road. He raised the alarm, drawing the attention of local residents, and the incident was subsequently reported to police.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that police responded to the scene, carried out an examination and documentation, and conducted a postmortem at the location.
Maate has urged anyone with information that could help identify the perpetrators to come forward so that justice can be served.
