The Minister of Finance (General Duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, has called on residents of Kigezi Sub-region to embrace the transition from subsistence farming to a modern money economy as a pathway to prosperity.

Speaking at the closure of the four-day Kabale Diocese 14th Annual Eucharistic Congress held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality on Sunday, Minister Musasizi noted that an estimated 33% of Ugandans remain outside the money economy, a situation he described as a barrier to household development.

Minister Musasizi urged the thousands of Christians in attendance to focus on building stable and prosperous homes by engaging in productive enterprises.

He stressed that government has already laid the foundation for profitability through supportive policies, but it is up to citizens to turn these advantages into jobs and wealth at the household level.

“The Parish Development Model and other wealth funds are aimed at increasing the number of wealth creators engaged in commercial agriculture, industries, services, and ICT,” Minister Musasizi said. He appealed to the faithful to embrace government programs instead of remaining trapped in subsistence farming.

Meanwhile, in his homily, the Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, Msgr. John Vianney Sunday, reminded Christians that the Holy Eucharist is not only a source of spiritual empowerment but also physical renewal. He encouraged Christians to use the lessons from the Congress as a starting point to fight poverty and create wealth.

“Jesus Christ also gives us physical empowerment through the Holy Eucharist. Therefore, go out and work towards achieving that. How I wish that today, as we conclude this event, each one of you starts with at least one hen, and by the time we return for the 15th Eucharistic Congress, you come back with testimonies of multiplication,” he said.
