Bobi Wine Arrested On Return, Concerns Rise for Democracy and His Safety

KAMPALA – Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was arrested upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport from mobilization tours in South Africa and Canada.

This follows the earlier arrest of seven of his supporters and leaders by Entebbe police.

A heavy military presence was noted at the airport, and Bobi Wine was swiftly apprehended by soldiers, raising concerns about his safety and democracy in Uganda.

The NUP party is calling for his immediate release, urging supporters to remain calm and avoid violence.

Bobi Wine has faced frequent arrests on questionable charges in recent years.

The NUP had planned a mass welcome for him near Kampala, but police deemed such gatherings illegal.

As of press time, the police had not issued a comment on the matter.
