Uganda will host the 63rd Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) from September 8 to 12, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs has announced.

The confirmation follows Uganda’s selection as Vice Chair of the 63rd Session during last year’s meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. The Kampala gathering is expected to attract delegations from 47 AALCO member states, representatives of international organizations, and legal experts from Asia and Africa.

Charles Ouma, Deputy Solicitor General confirmed the development on Monday while addressing the media at Uganda Media Center in Kampala.

“The upcoming event marks a significant milestone for the country, as it will bring together legal and diplomatic delegations from over forty-seven member states of AALCO, along with representatives from international organizations and legal experts from Asia and Africa”. He said.

Established in 1956 after the Bandung Conference of 1955, AALCO provides an advisory platform for member states on matters of international law, including the law of the sea, climate change, cybersecurity, trade, peace and security, and dispute resolution.

Kiwanuka says the conference will enhance Uganda’s profile in international legal affairs, offer learning opportunities for legal professionals, and boost the economy through increased hotel occupancy, tourism, and local business activity.

“Hosting the meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo will also showcase the country’s capacity to organize high-level international events”. He said.

As current Chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Uganda is expected to use the platform to advance issues of concern to developing countries, particularly in promoting regional integration, peace, and investment.
