The Chancellor of Kabale Diocese, Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya, has urged Christians to practice almsgiving discreetly, emphasizing that acts of charity should be carried out with humility and sincerity as the Lenten season begins.

Delivering his homily during the Ash Wednesday Mass at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality, Fr. Mugumya reminded the faithful that prayer must be an intimate communication with God rather than a public display of devotion. He added that fasting should inspire inner transformation instead of outward expressions of misery or gloom.

Fr. Mugumya stressed that true devotion seeks God’s approval, which brings eternal reward, rather than fleeting human praise. He cautioned against hypocritical and performative acts of piety aimed at gaining recognition, noting that genuine faith is rooted in the heart and is rewarded by the Father who sees what is done in secret.

The Chancellor, who also serves as Secretary to the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Callist Rubaramira, encouraged Christians to examine the intentions behind their actions, underscoring that God values the condition of the heart more than outward religious displays.

He further challenged believers to abandon sinful habits and ungodly addictions, and to live lives that glorify God both in word and deed. Fr. Mugumya reminded the congregation that sincere sacrifices made in humility do not go unnoticed by God.
