Kyamakanda Secondary School in Buyanja Town Council, Rukungiri District, is facing mounting pressure on its infrastructure due to a sharp rise in student enrolment, raising concerns among parents and school administrators.

The school currently hosts 1,126 students, 509 boys and 617 girls, with 890 in the boarding section and 236 attending as day scholars. The growing population has outpaced available facilities, prompting urgent calls for expansion.

Speaking during the Annual PTA meeting held at Kyamakanda Archdeaconry Church in Saturday, Headteacher Turyamusiima David Kapiira revealed that the school is actively lobbying government for funding to construct a multi-purpose block aimed at easing congestion.

He noted that on March 24, 2026, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Rukungiri District visited the school, assessed the situation, and pledged to engage relevant ministries to support the project.

Amid the challenges, the school administration recognized outstanding academic achievement by awarding top performers in the 2025 UCE and UACE examinations, along with their parents, in a bid to motivate continued excellence.

As enrolment continues to rise, stakeholders say urgent intervention is needed to expand infrastructure and maintain the quality of education at the school.
