Seven passengers have been confirmed dead and thirteen others injured following a fatal road crash that occurred on 4th May 2026 at around 01:15 AM in Lapok Mor Village, Nwoya District.
The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UBP 736U, an Isuzu bus belonging to Nile Star Coaches, which was being driven by Abugo Mandella Kadin, who is currently in police custody. The second vehicle was a Benz Actros trailer registered SSD 040A/SSD 498C.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the bus, which was travelling from Arua, attempted to overtake two vehicles ahead before colliding head-on with an oncoming trailer.
Eyewitnesses on board the bus reported that the driver had been driving recklessly throughout the journey.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the Directorate of Traffic, Road and Safety Public Relations Officer, passengers had raised concerns about the driving behavior, but were allegedly dismissed by the conductor instead of appropriate action being taken.
