Police in Kabale District have arrested a woman suspected of killing her two-year-old child and dumping the body in a water stream in Butobere.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Akankwasa Silvia, came under suspicion after local residents noticed she had been seen without her child from the previous evening through the following morning.

Concerned residents questioned her about the child’s whereabouts, but she reportedly failed to provide a clear explanation.

The matter was reported to the area chairperson, Samaki Stella, who mobilised residents to search for the child. During the search, clothes believed to belong to the child were discovered dumped in a toilet at the suspect’s residence, raising fears that the child may have been harmed.

The case was subsequently reported to Kabale Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect. During interrogation, police say the suspect allegedly confessed to killing the child and dumping the body in a water stream in Butobere.
