Police in Rubanda District have arrested three suspects over alleged theft from a motor vehicle and robbery along the Kabale–Kisoro Highway.
The suspects were arrested following an incident that occurred at Karukara Market in Hamurwa Town Council on the night of May 21, 2026, shortly after midnight.
According to police, the suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Arigye Ivan, a resident of Rugarama Kakore, Niwaha Duncan of Kamuterere Kakore, and Ainamani Justus of Muyorere Kitawulira.
The arrests followed a swift police operation after the District Police Commander (DPC) of Rubanda, SP Tumwebaze JB, received information that unidentified thugs had allegedly intercepted occupants of a truck at Karukara Market, assaulted them and robbed several items.
Police say a response team from Hamurwa Police Station was immediately dispatched to the scene. However, by the time officers arrived, the suspects had reportedly fled.
While conducting follow-up operations near Hakakondogoro Trading Centre, close to Karukara Market, police intercepted individuals suspected to be involved in the crime transporting a calf believed to have been stolen on a motorcycle, registration number UEV 958H, a red Bajaj Boxer.
The suspects reportedly abandoned both the motorcycle and the calf before fleeing the scene. The recovered motorcycle and calf were later taken to Hamurwa Police Station as investigations continued.
According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, police intelligence and operational teams remained on the ground, leading to the identification of the three suspects by the victim before they were arrested.
Maate said that the suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to face prosecution as investigations into the matter continue.
