KABALE – Kigezi Social Work Foundation, an NGO dedicated to addressing the needs of women and communities in Kigezi Sub region, is hunting for UGX 350 Million to acquire a life-saving ambulance, intending to offer crucial assistance to expectant mothers in the region.

To mobilize funds, they have organized the much-anticipated Kigezi Marathon on November 4, 2023, aiming to unite the community in a collective effort to support expectant mothers.

Sam Kanyamukiza, the Organizing Chairperson, states that the marathon’s main goal is to raise funds for the UGX 350 million ambulance. As an incentive for participation and community involvement, the foundation has prepared enticing gifts, turning the marathon into more than just a race but a celebration of unity and compassion.

Two months ago, health professionals in Kigezi, led by Dr. Abdon Birungi, Chairperson of District Health Officers in the six districts, appealed to the Ministry of Health for an ambulance allocation to each Health Center IV. This request aims to address challenges of patient inaccessibility, particularly in remote areas within the region.

Dr. Birungi, also the District Health Officer for Rubanda, stressed that most Health Center IV facilities rely on ambulances stationed at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, facing difficulties in providing timely services to certain remote areas.
