RUBANDA – About 35 mourners yesterday narrowly escaped a serious single accident when their vehicle veered off the road and slided for several meters while on their journey back from a burial in Rubanda District.
The incident unfolded at approximately 5:10 PM as the Isuzu Elf White with the registration number UAN100Z failed to navigate a sharp corner at Kamusegwa cell, Nyarurambi ward, Rubanda town council.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, reported that the accident was a result of over speeding. Despite warnings from mourners urging the driver to exercise caution, their pleas were disregarded, leading to the unfortunate event.
The motor vehicle, now identified as a white Isuzu Elf with registration UAN100Z, veered off the road, tipping onto its right side and sliding for several meters. The identity of the driver remains unknown, as they are currently at large.

All 35 victims were promptly rushed to Muko Health Center IV by compassionate passersby. Sgt Mwine Patrick and his team visited the scene, and the damaged vehicle was towed and impounded at Rubanda Central Police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
