Boda-Boda Rider Dies in Rukungiri Accident

RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 22-year-old Boda-Boda rider in a single fatal accident.

The deceased, identified as Simon Niwenyesiga, was a resident of Kakyeka Cell in Northern A Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

The incident occurred today at Kyemengo village, Buhunga Sub-county, Rukungiri District, along the Buhunga-Rukungiri road at approximately 7:00 AM.

Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, reported that the deceased, riding motorcycle registration number UET 281L, a red Boxer, was traveling from Buhunga to Rukungiri. Unfortunately, at a corner along the route, he lost control, veered off the road, and collided with a eucalyptus tree. The impact resulted in his immediate demise, attributed to over-speeding.

Maate further disclosed that the scene of the accident was promptly attended to by Cpl Oketayot Micheal and his team. The body of the deceased was recovered and subsequently transported to Rwakabengo Health Center Mortuary for postmortem analysis.

The motorcycle involved was secured at the Police Yard pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
