RUKUNGIRI – One Person has been confirmed dead in Nyarushanje-Kisiizi tragic road accident in Rukungiri District.
The driver, Akanyamba Kato Joseph (23), from Butungwa Village, Kisiizi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub county, lost his life in an accident involving an Isuzu Elf with registration number UAU 445D.
The accident happened on August 13, 2023, around 2:30 PM at Kasooni village.
The vehicle, carrying 100 bags of cement, was heading from Nyarushanje Trading Center to Kisiizi when it lost control due to speed, crashing into an eucalyptus tree.
Unfortunately, Joseph didn’t survive the impact. Fortunately, the two passengers onboard remained unhurt.
The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, reported that Corporal Oketayot Micheal and his team visited the scene, and the deceased’s body was sent for a postmortem at Kisiizi hospital mortuary.
The bags of cement were returned to the owner, and the wrecked vehicle was taken to Kisiizi Police Post awaiting IOV inspection.
The accident was attributed to over speeding by the driver.
