Woman Attempts to End Children’s Lives by Setting House Ablaze in Kampala

KAMPALA – Police in Kampala are currently investigating an incident where a woman, Jennifer Nambiru, attempted to kill her three children by setting their house on fire while they were locked inside.

The attempted murder occurred on August 13, 2023, at around 8:20 PM in the Upper Lake Side Zone of Kisugu Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala.

Jennifer Nambiru, identified as the suspect, allegedly ignited a fire within the household with the intent to end the lives of her children, aged 7, 6, and 2.

Fortunately, the children’s cries for help alerted neighbors who rushed to rescue them. Thanks to their quick response, the children were unharmed, and the fire was extinguished before spreading to neighboring homes.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Jennifer Nambiru had been entangled in longstanding domestic violence issues with her husband, Bululu Moses.

Police report indicates that the matter had previously been addressed by local leaders and was under investigation by the CFPU Kisugu.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan area, stated that Kisugu Police Station received a report of the incident, prompting a swift response from officers.

Fire Prevention and Rescue Services from Kabalagala were also called to ensure the safety of the victims and prevent further damage.

Local community leaders and the landlady were interviewed to gather information about the incident.

It was determined that on August 13, 2023, Jennifer Nambiru collected household belongings, started a fire, and locked her children inside the burning house, presumably with the intention of ending their lives.

The Police are actively investigating the case, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend Jennifer Nambiru for prosecution.
