RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District have recorded a tragic hit-and-run incident resulting in the unfortunate demise of 67-year-old Fricano Rwakanika, a resident of Nyakayinga cell in Reamugoma parish, Ruhinda sub-county, Rukungiri District.
The incident occurred on September 4, 2023, around 10:00 AM, opposite Centenary Bank along Republic Road in Rukungiri Municipality, Rukungiri District.
The accident involved an unidentified motorcycle and the aforementioned pedestrian.
Reportedly, the deceased was walking along the road, facing the roundabout, when a speeding motorcyclist struck him from behind, tragically ending his life.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the police were promptly alerted, and they visited the scene to document the incident.
Subsequently, the body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre 3 for a postmortem examination and later released to the deceased’s family.
Maate also disclosed that an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, and efforts are being made to trace the vehicle involved.
