RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of 15-year-old Dismus Kyokwijuka, a resident of Runyamunyu cell in Bugangari sub-county.
The incident involved a silver and green Fuso Fighter with registration number UBM 711G, en route to Bikurungu town in Bikurungu sub-county.
A Police statement revealed that the accident, occurring yesterday along the Rukungiri – Kihihi road at 3:00 PM, left the driver and two unidentified passengers seriously injured.
The driver, rendered unconscious, was promptly taken to Nyakibare hospital for medical attention.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, attributed the accident to mechanical failure when the vehicle reached Bagawe cell in Bugangari sub-county, veering off the road and fatally striking a pedestrian.
Police were alerted, and the scene was examined and documented by a team led by DTO Rukungiri, Asp Ntawera Felix.
A postmortem was conducted, and the area was cleared, with the vehicle towed and parked pending IOV inspection.
