Boda-Boda Riders Protest M23 Rebel Kidnappings in Kisoro

KISORO – Boda-Boda riders in Kisoro District are currently living in constant fear due to a surge in kidnappings by M23 rebels from the Democratic Republic of Congo, posing a significant threat to their daily routines.

The recent abduction of Kamari Fideri, a Boda-Boda rider from Kabingo Cell, Southern Ward, Chahafi Town Council, on October 10, 2023, has intensified concerns.

Fideri fell victim after being deceived by an unknown person who claimed to buy a soda. Fortunately, he was released on October 24, 2023.

Speaking to Boda-Boda riders at Kisoro District headquarters, Abel Bizimana, the District LC5 Chairman, acknowledged the prevailing insecurity and criticized the delayed response from the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo, operating under the East African Forces.

Bizimana stressed the urgent need for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to ensure robust security measures for Kisoro residents, extending even to their homes, to curb further kidnappings.

In response to the escalating threat, Bizimana advised Boda-Boda riders to organize a peaceful demonstration, seeking assistance if the government remains unresponsive to the growing insecurity affecting their work and lives.
