KABALE – Police in Kabale district are hunting for the driver of UBN753S, a black Fuso Fighter, involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Kitumba along the Kabale-Katuna road.
The tragic incident unfolded on 17/01/2024 at 9:50 am when the unidentified driver struck and fatally injured 10-year-old Turiina Mariam, a female juvenile from Kitumba sub-county in Kabale district. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region police, reported that the driver was traveling from Kabale town to Katuna at the time of the accident. The driver abandoned the vehicle after hitting one pedestrian out of the three crossing the road at Kitumba.
Upon receiving notification, the police promptly attended the scene, documented the incident, and towed the vehicle to Kabale police station for further inspection. Simultaneously, the victim’s body, Turiina Mariam, was transported to Rushoroza hospital for a postmortem examination.
Elly Maate confirmed that investigations are currently underway, and the case has been officially registered at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number TAR 006/2024.
