RUBANDA – The Rubanda Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Eric Ssewandigi, sternly cautions schools against commencing studies before the official opening day for the first term.

Despite the Ministry of Education designating Feb. 5, 2024, as the official commencement for the third term, Ssewandigi discloses intelligence indicating that certain schools, particularly private ones, contemplate reopening for holiday teaching.

“This contradicts the Ministry’s policy and calendar and also deprives learners of the opportunity to rest and adequately prepare for the new academic year,” he emphasized.

Ssewandigi observes that schools reopening before Feb. 5, 2024, primarily aim to maximize profits by charging parents for holiday teaching. He urges parents to promptly report any exploitation related to holiday teaching.

“I urge parents to report any School Director attempting to exploit them by opening the school before the official day,” he urged.
