KABALE CENTRAL MARKET LOCKUP ALLOCATION HITS DAY THREE AS PADLOCKS CUT OFF FOR TRADERS WHO FAILED TO FOLLOW PROCEDURES

KABALE: Kabale Municipal council leaders on Friday 13th January 2023 cut off padlock of venders who failed to follow lockups allocation procedures.

This comes after the opening of the newly constructed Kabale Central Market on Tuesday 08/01/2023 this week where relocations of raffles and lockups started and predicted the process to end on Friday 13/01/2023, the market construction started in 2019 by Chong Chuing International Construction (CICO), a Chinese based company at Ugx 23 billion shillings under the World Bank-funded Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement program – MATIP III.

The Kabale Municipality Mayor Byamugisha Emmanuel Sentaro while speaking in an interview with thesourceug.com reporter revealed that cutting off of the padlocks comes after when a section of traders allocated themselves lockups without authorities’ knowledge.

Sentaro added that the revenue that will be collected in the market 15% shall go to security and cleaning, maintaining the market and the rest shall be shared according to the government act, 50% for the divisions,50% for central and this shall help to construct roads and others.

Athanasius Mujasi one of the  traders revealed that they were terminated from landlords to lockup owners or venders after the municipal council gaining a land title of the Kabale central market. Mujasi added that some traders are unhappy for being relocated for one lockup as they believed before to get more.
