KISORO – The family of 54-year-old Moses Bakunzi Nizeyimana in Kanyacucu Village, Busengo Parish, Nyarubuye Sub County, Kisoro District, is gripped by fear as their 10-year-old son, John Mary Irakunda, a pupil at Nsungwe Primary School, was abducted for ransom by a casual laborer named Hakiza, a 20-year-old Congolese.
Moses Bakunzi, the father, revealed that on October 22, 2023, his son vanished with Hakiza, whom he had hired as a casual laborer almost a month ago.
The kidnapper, now demanding UGX 800,000, utilized a mobile phone belonging to Bakunzi’s sister-in-law (0772-566541) to contact him and request 8 million shillings in cash for the release of John Mary Irankunda.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the case has been reported at Kisoro Central Police Station and is under investigation.
Authorities are actively pursuing any leads to apprehend the Congolese kidnapper and secure the release of the abducted child from captivity.
