KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suicide of a 28-year-old man who hanged himself in the sitting room of his home in Kambuga Sub County.
The deceased, identified as Niwamanya Nelson, was a resident of Kakoni Cell, Nyarugunda Parish, in Kambuga Sub County, Kanungu District.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that on Friday, at around 5:00 PM, Niwamanya returned home from a burial in Katojo, where he had been staying with his mother.
“Upon arrival, he found his mother digging near the house. Niwamanya told her that someone needed her at their neighbor’s house. When the mother went to check, she returned to find her son hanging from a rope in the sitting room. The reasons behind the suicide remain unclear”. Maate said.
Maate added that a case of suicide was registered at Kambuga Police Station, the scene of the incident was visited and documented.
“A postmortem was conducted, and the body was handed over to the family for burial”. Maate said.
