Police in Kisoro District have launched an investigation following the discovery of a decomposing foetus, estimated to be around seven months old, in the Mayor’s Garden in Kisoro Municipality.
According to the Kisoro District Police Commander, SP Ben Niwamanya Kashumbusha, the grim discovery was made on Tuesday by children scavenging for leftover food in the garden.
The area had recently hosted a week-long trade exhibition, and vendors had left behind various food remains.
Upon discovering the foetus, the children raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to notify the police.
The foetus, believed to be female, was recovered and taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
SP Niwamanya condemned the incident and confirmed that a full investigation is underway to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
