KISORO – The Kisoro Grade One Magistrate Court, under the leadership of His Worship Bob Asiimwe, issued a verdict on Tuesday, sentencing a 21-year-old man, Brain Nizeyimana, to community service for theft.
Nizeyimana, a resident of Nyatete village in Rwaramba parish, Nyakinama sub-county, Kisoro district, was found guilty of stealing UGX 250,000 on September 24, 2023, from Mbabazi Shallon.
Shallon, the complainant, informed the court that she received the stolen money, and the convict sought forgiveness, which she granted.
His Worship Asiimwe, during the sentencing, disclosed that the convict had spent 21 days in remand, and considering it was his first appearance in court for theft, the court applied the guidelines outlined in laws 285 and 178.
These laws stipulate that offenses of this nature fall within the court’s jurisdiction and should be duly penalized.
As part of the sentence, His Worship Asiimwe ordered Nizeyimana to perform two months of community service, working three days a week. Failure to comply would result in a 23-month prison term.
Additionally, His Worship advised the convict to appeal the decision if he harbors any uncertainties regarding the court’s ruling.
