RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri District are searching for unknown suspect(s) believed to be responsible for the alleged murder of a 32-year-old man in Ruhinda Sub County.
The deceased has been identified as Andrew Twijukye, a casual laborer from Muhororo and a resident of Kakoma Cell, Burombe Parish, Ruhinda Sub County, Rukungiri District.
It is alleged that last Friday, Twijukye and Akampulira Godwin, also known as God, were guarding road construction materials at Kakoma Trading Centre. On Saturday at around 8:00 AM, they were each paid twenty thousand shillings (UGX 20,000).
Both men went to a bar within the trading centre, where they drank until 5:00 PM, when Akampulira left, leaving Twijukye still drinking.
Twijukye did not return home until yesterday at around 8:00 AM, when his mother, Komwaro Rosette, informed Nyangira David, his paternal uncle, who reported his disappearance to Ruhinda Police Station. He was advised to make radio announcements and continue searching for Twijukye.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, at around 5:00 PM on Friday, Nyangira discovered Twijukye’s body in the bushy farm of Rwamagaya Catholic Church and notified the police.
The scene was visited and documented, and the body was taken to Rwakabengo HC3 Mortuary for a postmortem.
Maate has asked anyone with information that could help the police apprehend the perpetrators to come forward.
