KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of Happy Biryomumisho, a 43-year-old resident of Kibalama village, Buyondo parish, Nyamirama Sub County in Kanungu district.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Biryomumisho had been a suspect in a murder case involving Akankunda Promise (Kihihi CRB 211/2023), who was also a resident of the same address mentioned above.
The unfortunate incident occurred on 04/08/2023, around 06:30 pm, when the deceased was in police custody at Kanungu Central Police Station. It was during this time that he developed a sudden and mysterious illness, leading to his collapse inside the cells. Fellow detainees promptly alerted the cells guard, PC Ebu Samuel, who immediately informed the officer on duty.
In response, the authorities rushed Biryomumisho to Kanungu Health Center IV for medical attention. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at approximately 08:30 pm that same day.
In light of this unfortunate event, the police opened a death enquiry file (DEF) to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his passing. To gain more insights, the deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. Additionally, the area chairperson of Kibalama village was notified to inform the deceased’s relatives about the sad incident.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the cause of the sudden illness and the unfortunate death of Happy Biryomumisho.
