On June 26, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Rukungiri District, resulting in the arrest of a 37-year-old man named Tushabwomwe Josephat.
The victim, Ainembabazi Prisira, a 27-year-old resident of Karyamacumu cell in Kikongi Parish, Bwambara sub-county, was assaulted by the suspect.
The chairperson of Kikongi cell, Mubangizi Zepherino (54), reported the incident to the police at approximately 2:00 PM on the same day. According to the police statement, Tukamushaba Olivious, who was sleeping in her mother’s house opposite Josephat’s residence, heard the cries of Ainembabazi Prisira’s children at around 12:30 AM.
Olivious promptly woke up and rushed to Josephat’s house, finding the back door open. Upon entering, she discovered the lifeless body of the deceased with a head injury.
Concerned for the safety of the children, she took them to her mother’s house and informed Tumusiime Melda about the murder. Meanwhile, Josephat had already fled the scene and voluntarily surrendered himself to Mubangizi Zepherino, confessing to the murder of his wife.
Mubangizi Zepherino immediately apprehended Josephat and accompanied him to Bikulungu police station, where he reported the case under murder reference number SD REF:02/26/06/2023.
Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, confirmed that the murder case had been registered under Bikulungu SD REF: 02/26/06/2023.
The crime scene was visited, examined, and documented, and statements were obtained from relevant witnesses.
Furthermore, the suspect was placed under arrest, and the body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary at Rwakabengo Health Centre III for a postmortem examination.
