Student Succumbs to Assault injuries in Kisoro

KISORO – Police in Kisoro District are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic passing of 14-year-old Faith Muhirwe, a student residing in Bukara village, Maziba ward, Bunagana town council, Kisoro district.

Faith allegedly fell victim to assault by Bosco Mutabazi, a 30-year-old resident of the same village, on August 21, 2023, at approximately 01:30 PM, eventually succumbing to her injuries on August 10, 2023.

According to the police statement, on August 21, 2023, in Bukara village, the suspect assaulted his niece, the deceased, for reasons yet unknown.

The incident was promptly reported, leading to its registration at Bunagana police station. Subsequently, the suspect was arrested and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm to the victim.

He appeared in court on August 25, 2023, and has since been remanded to Kisoro government prison, where he remains to this day.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, disclosed that on September 10, 2023, at approximately 05:40 PM, the local area chairman LC1 reported the unfortunate passing of the victim.

In response, a team of homicide detectives, accompanied by SOCO (Scene of Crime Officers), swiftly proceeded to the crime scene, documented the incident, and conveyed the deceased’s body to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
