Two Arrested for Defrauding Korean Investor in $300,000 Gold Scam in Kampala

KAMPALA – The State House Anti-Corruption Unit and Uganda Police apprehended two individuals, Mugisha James Jeff and Maviri Godfrey, for defrauding a Korean investor in Kampala.

They appeared before the Kampala Capital City Authority Chief Magistrates Court yesterday, facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The accused have been remanded until October 25, 2023.

Between August and November 2021, Mugisha James Jeff, allegedly introducing the Korean investor Hyun Uk Kim to a 53Kg Gold Scam in Kampala, orchestrated the defrauding of over USD 300,000.

Maviri Godfrey consistently accompanied the gold ‘seller’ during all interactions.

The alleged gold seller remains at large, and investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit are ongoing.
