Two Killed, One Injured in Rukungiri Brutal Attack

RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District are currently investigating a tragic incident that resulted in the death of two individuals and left another critically injured.

The two victims have been identified as Ahumuza Enid, a 56-year-old businesswoman, and resident of Rwabwingi “B” cell in Buhunga parish, Buhunga sub-county, and Philip Tumuramye, a 28-year-old individual from Rwabwingi “A” cell.

The incident unfolded when Philip allegedly attacked Enid while she was sleeping in her shop on the evening of September 8, 2023, around 08:30 PM. Philip was armed with a sharp panga, which he used to inflict serious injuries on Enid.

Enid’s cries for help brought her biological son, Muramuzi Rigers, to the scene. In the process of attempting to rescue his mother, Muramuzi was also attacked and injured by Philip.

Their distress calls drew the attention of other locals who chased down Philip Tumuramye as he attempted to flee the scene. He was eventually overpowered and subsequently killed.

Tragically, despite their efforts to seek medical attention, Enid succumbed to her injuries upon arriving at Nyakibare Hospital.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that a report regarding the incident was filed at Buhunga Police Station by Justine Bashaba, the area chairperson of Rugando Cell.

The police visited and processed the crime scene, recovering a sharp panga stained with suspected blood. Both victims’ bodies were transported to Rwakabengo Health Center 3 for a postmortem examination.

The investigation into this unfortunate event is ongoing.
