The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, has called upon Christians in Kabale District to live out their faith by being the “salt and light” of the world, preserving moral values, promoting goodness and shining as examples of godly living in their communities.
Bishop Rubaramira made the call on Saturday while confirming 487 Confirmants into the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Good Shepherd, Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in Kabale Municipality.
In his homily, Bishop Rubaramira emphasized that just as salt preserves food from decay and enhances its flavor, believers are called to preserve society from moral corruption and add value through acts of kindness, honesty, and compassion.
He reminded Christians that if salt loses its taste, it becomes useless, similarly, when believers lose their spiritual integrity and become indistinguishable from the world, they lose their purpose and influence.
Turning to the metaphor of light, Bishop Rubaramira encouraged Christians to be visible witnesses of Christ’s love and truth.
“A city on a hill cannot be hidden,” he said, urging believers to let their good deeds shine so that others may see and give glory to God. He likened Christians to a lighthouse, guiding others toward hope and righteousness, especially in times of moral confusion.
Bishop Rubaramira underscored that being a follower of Jesus is not a passive role but a mission, one that calls for active engagement in shaping society positively. He challenged Christians to ensure their faith is evident in their words, actions, and daily choices, saying that the ultimate goal of living as salt and light is not self-glorification, but to bring honor to God.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Nicholas Thaddeus Kamara, warned Ugandan youth against betting, citing it as a major driver of poverty and underdevelopment.
Dr. Kamara noted that many young people gamble their limited earnings in hopes of quick wealth, often ending up poorer and trapping their families in poverty.
He also condemned early marriages, saying young couples often lack the maturity to handle marital challenges, leading to broken homes.
He urged the youth to use their free time constructively through sports, reading, Bible study, and small-scale businesses such as poultry and piggery farming.
