Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, who lost the July 17, 2025 National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary election for Kabale Municipality, has declared that he will not contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.

While addressing Journalists in Kabale District on Wednesday, September 17, Kamugisha said his decision was driven by the need to uphold party discipline and cohesion ahead of the 2026 general elections.

He emphasized that unity within the party is key to consolidating support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and safeguarding the gains registered under the NRM government.

“I hereby declare that I will not contest as an NRM-leaning independent for Kabale Municipality. Instead, I will focus on mobilizing support for President Museveni and the NRM party in the coming general elections,” Kamugisha announced.
