The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, has directed the arrest of Tumuheki Nicholas, an enrolled nurse at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, over alleged patient neglect in the casualty department.
Justice Naluzze issued the directive on Tuesday during a spot check at the hospital, part of the IGG’s regional tour that began with the Kabale Regional Office.
Preliminary findings indicate that the nurse allegedly instructed the caregiver of a severely bleeding patient, referred from Kamwezi Health Centre IV, to lay the patient on the floor, claiming the hospital had not been informed in advance to prepare a bed.
The caregiver further alleges that the nurse sent them to a nearby pharmacy to buy medicines, saying the hospital had none, but the medicines were reportedly never administered to the patient.
Lady Justice Naluzze also warned public servants against absenteeism and corruption, emphasizing that fighting corruption is a collective responsibility.
“The duty of fighting corruption should not be left for the IGG alone but the work of all citizens,” she said.
During her visit, she addressed local leaders at Kabale district and municipality headquarters, urging them to prioritize service delivery and end corruption, particularly at the district service commission where jobs are allegedly sold to applicants.
She also encouraged leaders to share information with civil society organizations to combat corruption.
