Police in Kasese District have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly stealing an 11-month-old baby from its caretaker in Base Camp Lower Cell, Central Division, Kasese Municipality.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2024, at around 1:30 pm when the suspect, identified as Masiika Robinah, reportedly took the child, a daughter of Masereka David, from the housemaid without the parents’ consent.
Despite the caretaker’s resistance, the suspect allegedly insisted she would return with the child later.
The matter was immediately reported to the Local Council I chairperson, who alerted the police.
Officers from Kasese Central Police Station, working alongside community members, launched a swift search operation. The suspect was later traced, arrested, and the child safely rescued.
Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime commended the community for their cooperation and urged parents to remain vigilant.
“Parents should keep a close eye on their children and promptly report any suspicious activity,” he said.
Police further advised parents and guardians to:
Always notify authorities immediately in case of emergencies.
Keep emergency contact numbers handy.
Maintain recent photographs of their children to aid identification when necessary.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
