Summary:
Bukimbiri County MP Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu criticized the NRM government for inflating its achievements while failing to meet key commitments.
KISORO: A section of Members of Parliament in Kisoro District has clashed with Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa over the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s failure to fulfill critical promises in the area.
During the restoration launch ceremony of St. Mary’s Mutolere Catholic Church Parish, where Tayebwa served as the chief guest on Sunday, Bukimbiri County MP Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu criticized the NRM government for inflating its achievements while failing to meet key commitments. He specifically pointed to the long-promised tarmacking of the Mutolere-Nyakabande road, which, despite repeated government assurances, remains incomplete.
Kwizera, emphasizing his strong ties with his constituents, questioned President Yoweri Museveni’s claim that the Mutolere-Nyakabande road had been tarmacked. He highlighted its poor condition, drawing murmurs of agreement from the audience.
He further argued that if former Inspector General of Police, Rtd. Gen. Kale Kayihura, could receive a response from the President within a week, there was no reason why another letter couldn’t be written to address the road’s true state.

Similarly, Bufumbira North MP John Nizeyimana Kamara openly challenged Tayebwa’s call for unity among leaders. Kamara argued that Kisoro’s stagnation was not due to sectarianism, as some claimed, but rather to the selfishness of certain individuals who prioritized personal interests over community development.

In response, Tayebwa defended the government’s efforts, urging the MPs to recognize the services the NRM administration had delivered. He emphasized the importance of parliamentary engagement, stressing that leaders must actively participate in debates and lobbying efforts to secure development projects.
He assured the legislators that construction of the Mutolere-Nyakabande road would commence soon, adding that he would escalate the matter to the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala, for urgent intervention.
