The Minister of Finance (General Duties), CPA Hon. Henry Musasizi, has applauded the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) for championing excellence and progress in financial reporting.
Speaking as Chief Guest at the 10th Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) ceremony held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Friday, Minister Musasizi commended the profession’s role in aligning Uganda’s financial systems with international standards.
Uganda recently launched a roadmap for adopting the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, positioning the country among Africa’s first movers in sustainability compliance.
The Minister also highlighted Uganda’s role in shaping the forthcoming International Non-Profit Accounting Standard (INPAS), which he said will transform global reporting for non-profit organisations.
“As government accelerates accrual accounting and IPSAS adoption, our partnership with ICPAU will continue to strengthen accountability and transparency frameworks. This is more than compliance, it is about aligning Uganda’s financial systems with global sustainability, governance, and impact goals,” Musasizi said.
He further pledged government’s support for the profession, including professionalisation through CPA, membership and CPD support, and financial assistance “as resources permit.”
The Minister congratulated this year’s award winners, reminding accountants of the biblical verse Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
The 10th edition of the Accountancy Service Awards was celebrated as a historic milestone, being hosted as a stand-alone event for the first time.
ICPAU President, CPA Timothy David Ediomu, reflected on the evolution of the awards from a side activity during the Annual Seminar to a premier platform dedicated to honouring excellence in accountancy.
“Accountancy is more than numbers; it is about leadership, innovation, accountability, and creating impact,” Ediomu said, praising the awardees for transforming businesses, uplifting communities, and inspiring future generations.
