KISORO – The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development, Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi has expressed concern over the escalating depletion of natural resources leading to a rise in landslides.
Addressing attendees at a corporate dinner organized by Kisoro Cooperative Walkers at Tourland Hotel in Kisoro Municipality, Nyirabashitsi highlighted the recent heavy rains causing destructive floods and landslides, resulting in the loss of valuable properties and lives. Last year, eight people lost their lives in Kisoro due to landslides triggered by intense rainfall.
As the Woman Member of Parliament for Kisoro district, Nyirabashitsi emphasized that such disasters could be prevented through community efforts to restore natural resources, particularly forests, many of which have suffered from human-induced destruction.
