Busongora South County in Kasese District is witnessing a shift in its political landscape, with growing support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Hon. Gideon Thembo Mujungu’s leadership.
Residents are increasingly rallying behind Hon. Mujungu’s vision for development and community liberation, citing his efforts alongside the President’s guidance.
Hon. Mujungu, who recently lost the NRM party flag following a tribunal ruling, has declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate for the Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general elections.
Addressing hundreds of supporters at Nyisangu Trading Centre in Nyisangu Village on Saturday morning, he warmly welcomed residents from different walks of life and pledged to work with them to transform the area if elected.
“I am here to walk this journey with you. Together, we shall fight for development and uplift our communities,” Hon. Mujungu told cheering crowds, emphasizing a people-centered leadership style focused on welfare and progress.
Local leaders echoed their support, while also highlighting urgent community needs.
Zalimon Muhindo, the LC1 Vice Chairperson, commended the government for the ongoing construction of the 4.9km Kasika–Nyasingu road, improved security, mobile network connectivity, and Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
However, he appealed for clean water supply, electricity, a government-aided secondary school, and a functional market to enhance local livelihoods.
“Many of our teenagers drop out of school due to the long distances they trek daily. We need a nearby secondary school to address this challenge,” Zalimon stressed.
In response, Muhindi Elifaz Bukombi, the incumbent District LCV Chairperson, called for unity and collective responsibility in overcoming the area’s challenges.
He pledged to strengthen his lobbying efforts to ensure Busongora South receives essential services.
“We must vote for leaders who are focused, pro-people, and committed to the development struggle. At the same time, let us avoid domestic violence and other practices that derail our progress,” Muhindi said.
As the 2026 general elections draw closer, the growing wave of support for Hon. Mujungu is expected to play a decisive role in Busongora South politics, where the electorate is weighing promises of development against long-standing challenges.
