Police in Rukiga District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of 43-year-old Oliver Mbabazi, a resident of Rwongora Cell in Kitojo Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county, whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances on Sunday evening.
According to preliminary reports, Mbabazi was last seen alive on Saturday while at home with her two-month-old baby. She was later found dead on Sunday, hanging inside her house with a piece of cloth.
However, police say a deep stab wound on her neck raised concerns that the scene may have been staged to disguise a possible homicide.
A team of detectives visited and processed the scene, recorded witness statements, and deployed a police canine, which helped lead to the arrest of one suspect.
The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigations.
Police also recovered a knife with suspected bloodstains within the compound, which has been taken as evidence.
Mbabazi’s body was transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that inquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
