KASESE: The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) have assured the community in Kasese District and all participants in the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon of their safety and security, promising a peaceful event.
In a press statement dated August 22, 2024, and signed by Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Director of Public Information, the army expressed its commitment to ensuring a secure environment, allowing participants to focus on the race and enjoy their time in Kasese.
“The UPDF is committed to ensuring security, allowing participants to focus on the race and enjoy their time in Kasese,” Kulayigye stated.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any security concerns to the authorities.
“We ask for cooperation from all attendees. If you notice anything suspicious or concerning, please report it immediately to the nearest security personnel or UPDF officers, who will be stationed throughout the event and ready to address any concerns,” Kulayigye added.
Kulayigye also highlighted Kasese’s stunning landscape and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, noting that they provide a unique setting for the marathon.

According to the organizers, the prize money for this year’s marathon will be distributed among the top finishers in each category as follows:
Men’s 42 km: UGX 10 million for the winner, with cash prizes for the top 6 finishers.
Ladies’ 42 km: UGX 10 million for the winner, with cash prizes for the top 6 finishers.
Men’s 21 km: UGX 7 million for the winner, with cash prizes for the top 5 finishers.
Ladies’ 21 km: UGX 7 million for the winner, with cash prizes for the top 5 finishers.
In addition to these awards, special cash prizes will be given to the best local talent from the Rwenzori region and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
